  1. WEll - i'm getting a pretty good han of converting divx and avi into nice vcd/svcd for my standalone dvd player.
    BUT!!
in 2 days i will buy a widescreen television. With DVD discs - no problemo (thay almost all have widscreen).
But is there a way of making a vcd/svcd so it will play as widescreen ??

Set the displayed aspect ratio to 16:9 instead of 4:3.
+ you dont need to resize a widescreen dvd, encoding will be faster.
    - you encode to 480x480 instead of 480x360(+2x60pixel borders), more macroblocks-->higher average bitrate is required to end with the same quality.

  3. So..... the one to set as 16:9 - is ite aspect ratio under video menu - or the one under advanced menu in TMPG (and what should the other read ? 1:1 or... ??)

At the advanced tab set the source aspect ratio. DVD is usually 16:9. Preview the .vob files with dvd2avi if you are not sure. If the source is DivX you might have to set 1:1(VGA).

  6. I don't recommmand you to re-encode your already encoded VCD's cause You will lose quality of the movie, and if you used the full screen version before, the images will look squashed because you are not using the Wide Screen version.

If you still have the VHS tapes, do it. But don't try to reencode a MPEG, it's not worth the trouble.

Smartripper tells you the aspect ratio. Just open SR and have a look at the Video-Info. If it is the wrong one, change the title/ angle.
